  This review is for the restaurant, and specifically the breakfast. The so called American breakfast was eggs/bacon/bread/butter/jam/coffee/fruit. BUT the bread is the cheap supermarket kind, instead of butter we got margarine, the jam also the cheap supermarket kind, and the coffee weak. Not tasty, and definitely not worth 5000 colones.

  I can't comment on the hospitality because we didn't stay here. But I would specifically reccomend you do NOT rent a bike from them. All the bikes are on the verge of breaking, and you are required to sign an agreement that relieves the hotel of ANY responsibility when you are inevitably left stranded miles away. Also, the receptionist scanned my credit card and ID with NO evidence that that info was discarded after the return. To be fair, the receptionist was very kind, but he was enforcing some ridiculous and shady rules.

  Clean, nice staff, safe if that's something that's important to you there's a locking gate after hours and a night guard. Right across from salsa brava which is one of the main bars to go to party. On the main street just before you get out of town next to the best bakery also

  Absolutely terrible customer service. My friend and I had booked six days with Lizard King toward the end of last year. A week before our reservation something came up and we had to cancel our stay. We informed the staff at the Lizard King that we would be unable to make it, and asked that they please cancel our reservation. We did this to give them the chance to book our room to another customer. They thanked us and informed us that a partial refund would be offered based on their ability to book the room. After the dates of our reservation had passed, the staff at the Lizard King informed us that they were successfully able to book the room for 4/6 of the nights, but that because they had not managed to book all 6/6 nights that we would not be receiving any refund. We found this to be extremely unethical as we gave them the courtesy of knowing in advance that we would not be able to make our reservation in an effort for them to find another customer, which they were able to do. As we didn't actually get the chance to stay here I cannot speak to the quality of the stay, but based on the customer service we have received and their prioritization of extra money over customer satisfaction I would not feel comfortable booking here again. Also, this is NOT a beachfront hotel as listed on some other websites - there is a busy street right in front of the hotel - the closest beach is down the street.

  Lizard King Hotel and Suites, located in Puerto Viejo CR is focused on making money and not on guest relations. I was recently on a trip and had planned to stay at this hotel for a period of it. Our plans changed and we were no longer able to stay at the hotel. We stopped by the hotel in person and gave them the news. The woman at the front desk said she would notify management and get back to us about a possible refund. Our cancellation was made in person 5 days before the reservation began during the peak holiday season. The hotel was able to fill 4 nights of our reservation according to the employee, but refused to provide any kind of refund. The hotel stated they never do refunds and refused to cover any of our costs. We had asked for a partial refund of the nights they had filled our room, or even a small percentage of the money paid (close to $1400 USD). The hotel again refused any type of refund. Its understandable to not refund nights that were not re-booked, but being unwilling to provide even a small refund after making close to another $1000 USD does not seem right. I will not recommend them to anyone and suggest people to look elsewhere if they are going to stay in Puerto Viejo CR.
