  Don’t use the red taxis here, use Uber instead! Got scammed by an ‘authorised’ taxi waiting outside and told an elaborate story about the motorway being closed and had to pay a lot of money. In general avoid all taxis in San Jose, Uber is much safer and cheaper

  The fact is I was helped with buying two passenger ticket from San Jose to Monteverde for CRC 6620.00. At the bus the driver said this was a single passenger. The justification given was that there is a single transaction number. I went to the counter at the bus station 5 minutes before bus departure and bought one more Ticket and was charged CRC 5000 plus. The ticket of course listed CRC 3060. For the return trip from Monteverde I again bought two tickets one day in advance at Monteverde to Sam Jose. Now the cost of each ticket was CRC 3060.00. The lady at the counter was polite and understood that I needed the tickets for the next day and for the afternoon bus. She showed me the price on her desk calculator as CRC 6120. I was shocked and asked her twice if this was for two tickets. She took the amount shown and issued two tickets. I do not understand the pricing policy.

  Tickets are purchased up top. If you already ordered them online, then wait and they will announce you to line up at the bus depot 15 min before. Don't walk around at night.

  Came here on a Sunday. Place is new and quite clean, but not all shops are open/rented. Food court on 3rd floor is very sparse. *Do not put your money into the soccer game machine! It eats it but no ball comes out!*
