  Excellent place if you're going out of the cou try, it's just 5 minutes from the airport, the owner is kind and his dogs too

  Honestly, I was just looking for a place somewhat near the airport but something that wasn't a chain hotel and still gave us some more Costa Rica vibes on our last night. We stumbled upon Pura Vida Hotel and went for it. Since my wife and I were celebrating our 15 year anniversary, I went ahead and booked dinner at the property as well. Boy were we impressed all around! We were greeted by the owners' two amazing German Shepherds who hung with us the rest of the night and the next morning. Both Berni and Nhi greeted us warmly and showed us to our Rainforest Casita. We loved the room and the open air. In the room, there is perhaps the largest welcome book you will ever find. I urge you to read every page. Berni's writing style is like no other. My wife read the entire thing and then proceeded to read it back to me from memory over dinner and I could not stop laughing. There are so many touches like this throughout the gorgeous property. The plants and trees alone are absolutely amazing. If you are lucky, you will have a gorgeous view of Poas Volcano the morning you wake up like we did. It was even erupting steam just for us! However, let's get to the most important part. First off, we visited for one night in the off season and timed it perfectly between two group visits so we literally had the entire boutique resort to ourselves! Since we are huge dog people, Berni let the dogs hang with us when we were outside of our room. Since Berni and Nhi are warm and welcoming, it literally felt like we were staying at a friend's very fancy house. But wait, there's more. We booked the dinner knowing absolutely nothing going into it. H--o---l---y cow! Nhi is an absolute magician in the kitchen. Every single plate that was put in front of us was pure heaven. From the presentation to fresh ingredients to over-the-top flavor, we could not believe how great this meal was. She is an incredible chef! On top of that, the price was incredibly reasonable and far cheaper than grabbing an app, steak, and dessert through crummy room service at a Hilton! You owe it to yourself to book the dinner when you stay here. You absolutely won't regret it. Don't even get me started on the breakfast the next morning which is included in your rate. Just wow!!! So fresh and so delicious! I can't thank Berni and Nhi enough for a wonderful stay and wonderful food. Berni, thanks for the added stories and jokes throughout our stay as well!
