We took the bus to from San Jose to Cahuita. Definitely in a less well-to-do area of town, but we walked from the train station in San Jose with minimal hassling from people asking for euros or extra change. If you're uncomfortable with the verbal hassling or alone, I'd recommend a taxi. Bathrooms cost, but there is a little store with baked goods you can enjoy while waiting for your bus. COVID (current) schedule is accurate to what a guide has posted on these reviews (thank you SO much for that). Bus was typical to Costa Rica (no a/c, same cloth seats, etc). Not as nice as the Tracopa transportation services, but they'll get you there.

Website has incorrect schedule on it. I rushed to the bus stop only to find out the route/time wasn’t even operating and had to wait two hours for the next option. It’s really not that hard to update your website with accurate schedules. Buses have a/c vents but NO a/c and the light doesn’t work, either. Windows will only open 6 inches or so. Bus driver decided to take a 25 minute break at Limon station when we were already running late and after telling us “diez minutos.” Sure was fun sitting there on that hot bus waiting for him!

Covid schedule change like most others not available online. Took some pics for the other unsuspecting travellers. *Note route may be diverted adding time due to the rain and road conditions. Upload the Waze app to keep up to date. Bonus points for the luggage storage man C1000 to hold my back pack. I don't recommend walking into town from the station. Take a taxi. Way too sketchy through the pawn shops and homeless poop sidewalks. 4pm to PJ got in about 11pm after a long agonising crawl through traffic with no breaks.

No proper restaurants and really basic infrastructure, with working power outlets. Be carful when arriving / staying here

Do not trust any guys at this bus station who are telling you that there are no busses driving because of the strike. They’re just trying to get you in their Taxi and taking a lot of money from you for driving you to another bus station which will be far away. Be careful.
