Be careful with the taxi drivers which are waiting for you when the bus arrives! We were really robbed from a baby-faced guy with a burn on his right hand/arm. He told us a story about striking bus drivers and that no tickets are available. He talked to a women that told us that there are no more tickets at this bus etc. Everything was a planned crime. Then he took us therefore to another bus station. OK, he said 4000C. At the end he drove us to Alajuela!!! Far away from San Jose, drove to a money machine and wanted to have 43.000 Colones! Unbelievable for us. So I really want to warn you to be careful and not so naive then us. Travel safe.

Typical bus station with colorful architecture elements. Get early to buy tickets and kill time in near by soda.

It is a pretty good bus station, but make sure you get there early, as tickets are first come first serve and all are reserved. They will still sell standing tickets after all seats are sold, but it isn't very comfortable. The busses are also very hot, no A.c. so make sure to wear comfy cloths. The terminal is in a sketchy area, so make sure you take an uber or taxi, there are lots of cool shops around there, but if you walk be prepared to be on the lookout and to watch your stuff, especially if you look like a gringo. The prices are unbeatable though for this. I recommend taking 2 bags, one with your cloths and things and another smaller one with essentials. You can put the larger bag under the bus, but keep the important stuff with you in you seat.

Wasn't very happy with being bombarded with taxi offers when coming down off the bus. I understand that they are wonderful people and trying to make a living but way to much.
