  Located quite central in walking distance to the inner city and bus station Caribe. Clean but simple rooms. The walls are thin, so it's a bit noisy. Our room had only a window to the stairway. Simple but good breakfast.

  It gets no stars from me, andnot because of lack of charm or ugly ill kept rooms with dirty toilets or no water pressure.......All of that was fine.......room was clean, bed was good, but theres a gaping hole in the security there, and at least one bad apple. My new expensive J5 Samsung was stolen out of my room the morning that I was due to leave. Had to be staff, cuz there were only two old ladies in the hotel that I saw and the cleaning lady right outside my door when i went to the front desk briefly........What astounded me was the way that the manager/owner (?) responded to me about this.........Instead of being helpful and sympathetic and grilling the cleaning lady, she acted like it was my fault. Even the cops when they got there were not very helpful and would not pressure the employees on the subject.........Absolutely terrible in terms of customer service. I could not now or ever return there or recommend this hotel to anybody in good conscience.........This is a prime example as to why tourism has fallen off of a cliff in Costa Rica......It has long been a shameless den of theives where there are but a few with a sense of responsibility. Its not necessarily like that everywhere in Costa Rica, but to a great extent its a fair generalization.....and especially true in mercenary, predatory San Jose...........Dont go if you dont have to......there are much better, nicer places..............

  I have extended stays here at the hotel three times and it's been Great ! 2003, 2008 and this summer (2015) I have stayed weeks and even a month this last visit. The included Breakfast in the morning is a good start to the day and they have a lot of info on tours, even some out of the way they have taken themselves ! A reliable dentist was recommended and what would have cost $2300 in the U.S. cost me $290 ! The three cab rides to the appointments was $10 each way. I would love to return to Costa Rica and I'd stay again at the Hemingway Inn.
